Your present cable is viewable on ANY TV….However your NEW TV is capable of recieving HI Definition Signals and that is a separate Package….like buying the HBO movie-pak or Starz….
IF you have a Cable Card based tuner, you really don’t need the Cable box and cabling required to recieve the Hi Def channels….
That SAME Cable Card tuner can recieve your LOCAL stations using an outdoor or table-top antenna too….You can at least recieve HD shows from ABC CBS NBC thru the air….but you may have to hook up your antenna and Autoprogram your TV again to get those stations…consult your owner’s manual for Antenna and Cable connections

You will not need to update your cable box if you buy the LCD, you will get a better picture if you update but it is not necessary
