How Come People Look Shorter On My New Lcd Tv Than Tube Tv?

I just bought a Samsung LN46B610 46". It has 4ms refresh rate, 120hz, 4:3 pulldown, 80 000:1 dynamic ratio but how come I find the picture to be better in my TUBE TV when watching normal tv than on this LCD?
And everything is shorter. Like people look shorter and fatter than they really are.
How do I fix this?

  1. If your picture size options are the same as on my Samsung LNT4671F, you want to ordinarily leave the screen size in JUST SCAN. That seems to select the proper view for whatever signal is being received.
The only time I change it is when an old movie is run in letterbox mode (space on all 4 sides). For that I change the P SIZE to WIDE SCREEN, which fills the screen except for a top and bottom band (due to the aspect ratio of wide screen movies that are typically shown in letterbox). It’s an excellent view for movies. When it’s done, I change P SIZE back to JUST SCAN.

  2. You are forcing standard def (4:3) material to fill your widescreen TV. When you do this, circles will look more like ovals. People will look short and fat.
Also, standard def material looks like garbage on HDTVs especially LCD.
Set your TV so that standard material fills the screen properly. You should see black bars on the side, and the image should look like a square (like a standard tube TV)
    Get HD programming.
If you have standard cable, scan your channels. I have basic cable but there are lots of Digital standard def channels, and about 6 true HD channels. The difference is amazing. you can get these channels if your TV has a built in “QAM” tuner.
Without HD material like blu ray, HD cable or HD SAT, a HDTV is a waste of money. A HDTV can’t turn standard definition material into HD material, TVs aren’t magic.

  3. I think the problem is a setting on your tv. It sounds like you are watching full-screen(4:3) video in wide-screen (16:9). This causes the people to look short and fat because it is stretching the video to fit the extra space that is not used in full screen.
I would look for an aspect ratio setting either on the remote or in the tv menu, consult the user manual if you don’t find it right away.

  4. Switch the PSIZE from 16:9 to 4:3 mode. You’ll get black bars on the left and right sides until you upgrade the cable to HD instead of Low Def signal…..
