How Do I Choose The Right Lcd Tv?

I am planning to buy a 32" or 37" LCD TV (HDTV), but I am not sure about the best specs. Do you have any brand preferences?
I would like to use the TV occasionally to play games, like with pS2 and XBOX 360/

  1. If you’re going to be playing video games on it, I don’t recommend getting a LCD TV. LCD TV’s still aren’t quite as good as .. well, anything else in terms of refresh rates. Refresh rates matter anytime fast movements take place (such as video games). The higher the refresh rate, the higher the chance of blurring. Many people don’t notice it, but unfortunately I’m not one of those people and it bugs the heck out of me. I was in China/Japan/Taiwan last month and I’ve seen the latest models of televisions. LCD has certainly come a long way, but it’s still not as good as plasma tv’s were two years ago. The higher end LCD TVs that don’t have as much of a blurring issue but is also as expensive as a car. LCD has it’s pluses, higher resolution for example … but I personally think it stinks for gaming. That’s my opinion of course, so I urge you to check out sports on a LCD TV and see if the blurring bothers you.
Here are some websites to help you out.http://www.cnet.com.au/tvs/0,239035250,2…
“Plasma pundits will also tell you that some LCD screens have a tendency to blur images, particularly during fast moving scenes in movies or in sports. While that was true for older generation LCD screens, newer models have improved significantly – so much so that the differences in performance between LCDs and plasmas in this regard is almost negligible (here’s a tip — if you’re shopping for LCDs, check the refresh rate. The lower it is, the better the image quality in fast moving scenes).”http://www.lcdtvbuyingguide.com/lcdtv-pl…
“While the “response time” of LCD TVs has markedly improved in the last couple of years, they still suffer from a slight “trailer” effect, where the individual pixels are just slightly out of step with the image on the screen. During fast moving sports scenes, the most discerning eyes can detect this slight motion response lag.”

The other answerer was commenting on how the life of a plasma TV is poor. That’s simply not true anymore. Do your own research on that matter, this hasn’t been an issue for quite some time now. Don’t believe what he says about being an idiot for buying a plasma. People who say that can’t see the difference in image quality, perhaps their attention to detail is lacking .. who knows. He has very strong opinions towards plasma tvs and hybrid cars, those are exactly the wrong people to listen to. Keep an open mind. For the record, I have a HDTV CRT, Plasma TV, and three LCD TVs (all larger than 32”) .. they all have their purpose. The LCD TVs are great for connecting to computers, they have high resolutions. For watching TV, nothing beats CRT and Plasma… yet. http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/plasm…

  2. The Final Word on HDTV by J.-
If you enjoy throwing $6400 out of the window of your car, then by all means, buy the plasma tv. If youre looking for a decent tv that will last your for a very long time, go with the LCD. While, plasma screen tvs do have a slightly better picture quality than LCDs, their(plasma) lifespans are only about 7-8 years, maximum. Most only last 5-6 years. Some people will try to bullsh** you by saying “Well, they havent been out for that long, how would you know.” Well, I know, and so do the people that manufacture them, and so do the people that own them. Another point that you can make is the PS2/other game systems problem, on a plasma tv, if you leave a game system on for an extended period of time, images will become burned into the plasma screen. LCDs, while bulkier, do not have these problems. To me, people that own plasma screen tvs are just like the idiots who own hybrid cars, the only reason they buy them is so that they brag about it to their friends, in the event that the yuppie ******* even have any. To be simple about it, if want to buy a good Hi-Def tv without spending a small fortune go with the LCD. If you have a couple of extra bucks to spend, I’d recommend DLP, but thats another story.
Now thats out of the way, if youre absolutely hell-bent on getting an LCD screen then you have to go with Sony, no questions asked. I think that the wega gives you the biggest bang for your buck, but check it out, at this point in time theres not a huge cost difference between models, general speaking. In any event you want to make sure that you get a Sony. Next, having all of the HD monitors in the world won’t do you a damn bit of good unless you have HDTV service. Below are your options:
Cable TV: Absolutely sucks. High cost, crappy picture quality and rather small amount of HD programming even available. Upside: Its HDTV for dummies, your ignorance is your bliss.
DirecTV: Excellent picture and quality at a decent price, however even DirecTV doesnt have a whole heap of programming in the way of HDTV. Also, I’m not a big fan of their HD technology, but thats just me talking, I’m kind of, well actually, very picky when it comes to TV.
Dish Network: At this point in time, Dish is probably the primo way to go for HDTV. They have excellent receivers/equipment at a fairly modest cost but more importantly they have more HD programming available than any one else on the Planet Earth. I shouldnt be saying this, given the fact that my cousin owns a DirecTV franchise, but what the hell do you care?
These are all options to mull over, but don’t be an idiot when it comes to spending money on your TV setup. I promise, if you follow my advise you’ll be more than happy.

  3. lcd like plasma have 60000 hr half life on the screen sony and samsung both makes great lcd tv you can get a 42 samsung 1080p for around3400 us and the sony for 4000 us dollars both are 1080p which will be important with next generation games systems will be blueray 1080p look for high contrast ratio 5000 to 10000 will provide you whiter whites, blacker blacks look for fast refresh rates it must have 2 hdmi inputs but most important is which one looks best with your eye which one you think l;ooks good because that what really matters, just remember plasma and lcd have 60000 hrs half life that 7hours a day for 18 years of tv veiwing!! half life is the tv is on for 18 years and it half as brite as the day you bought it lcd dont have a true black like plasma but they run cooler use less energy and the new ones are brighter with high contrast ratio

  4. I own a 50 inch Sony Wega. Love it. The color is awesome. I looked at the plasma vs lcd thing and decided the best buy for the buck was the lcd.
