How Far Should You Sit From Your Lcd Tv?
I want to buy a 40 inch LCD TV for my living room, however, I'm not sure if my room is big enough for it. Could you pls let me know what is the best distance?

1 foot for every 5 inches.
Meaning: 40″ means 8 feet away. This is the rule of thumb.
But give or take a foot or two is OK. It is not going to crimp your lifestyle.
Should be at eye level when sitting to watch – otherwise you get a neck pain

According to THX – 4.5 – 6.3 feet is the optimal viewing distance to give you a good image without being too close.
If you use the SMPTE theory – 5.4 feet
So 4.5 to 5.5 feet away gives you the best of both theories.

I think anything over six feet would be an acceptable viewing distance for a screen that size. There’s a table at the link below with recommendations for screen sizes and viewing distances.
