  1. A liquid crystal display (LCD) is a thin, flat panel used for electronically displaying information such as text, images, and moving pictures. Its uses include monitors for computers, televisions, instrument panels, and other devices ranging from aircraft cockpit displays, to every-day consumer devices such as video players, gaming devices, clocks, watches, calculators, and telephones. Among its major features are its lightweight construction, its portability, and its ability to be produced in much larger screen sizes than are practical for the construction of cathode ray tube (CRT) display technology.
A seven-segment display or LED, less commonly known as a seven-segment indicator, is a form of electronic display device for displaying decimal numerals that is an alternative to the more complex dot-matrix displays. Seven-segment displays are widely used in digital clocks, electronic meters, and other electronic devices for displaying numerical information.

  2. Adithya has this right. An “LED TV” *is* an LCD TV, just with LEDs for the backlight instead of fluorescents.
You can prove this easily. Go up to an “LED” TV in the store and push on the screen with your finger. You’ll find the image will “ripple” out from the pressure just as it does on any other LCD TV.
The picture is no more “clear” than any other LCD – you’re still looking at an LCD, after all. Nor is there a difference in maximum size – this again is determined by “how big can we make the LCD panel”, not by the backlight. If anything, fluorescent-backlight LCDs will remain at the large sizes because LED backlights are more espensive, and the cost difference goes up as the size increases.
An LED LCD TV will be thinner than conventional LCD, because the LEDs don’t need as much in the way of diffusion. It will produce less heat. It MAY give better colors, but LCD’s color issues are in general not caused by backlight issues.
An LED LCD TV that uses backlight dimming can do better at shadow detail than a fluorescent backlight without, and an LED LCD that uses selective dimming can do even better (and this can’t be done at all with fluorescent), but this tech is not in all LED LCD TVs.
LED backlighting does not help with LCD’s view angle issues, nor with motion ghosting.
There are no “pure LED” TVs – i.e. direct view of the LEDs – unless you’re talking about the giant outdoor displays like the ones on the Las Vegas Strip.
Edit: Gotta love these people who give negs to correct information. Why don’t you post an actual response?

  3. LCD is thinner and it is unclear while viewed from edges.
LED is one which uses Light emitting diodes instead of flouroscent bulbs.
but the factor to be consider is cost. LED is expensive when compared to LCD’s.But in picture quality LED is better.
slight variation in picture quality can be clearly observed.
Hence my suggestion is LCD is better.

  4. LED TV is just an LCD TV that uses a LED backlight instead of a fluorescent one. This helps alleviate the problem of poor color fidelity that LCD’s suffer from, but does little to help poor black levels, response time, and viewing angles.

  5. 1. LCD televisions are thinner and lighter
    2. Much larger sizes
    3. clear picture.

  6. led tv consumes less power and thereby generates less heat

  7. LED is great, but it is too pricey right now. LCD is fine until the LED’s are cheaper.

  8. to me personally i like led better as lcd can get fuzzy some times at certain angles
