From the computer you are viewing TV on, you can connect the TV with an s-video, VGA, DVI, or HDMI cables. S-video is the poorest quality of them all. Use DVI or HDMI for high definition. VGA should do just fine for standard definition picture. DVI and HDMI have the same picture quality. HDMI is better because it carries both video and audio. With DVI, you will need to buy a seperate y cable if you are to use the TV’s speakers.
Basically, you have extended desktop mode and clone mode. Clone mode shows the same picture on both monitors (in this case, the same picture on the computer monitor and the TV). Extended desktop shows different pictures on the 2 displays. Just as a side note, when you hit the maximize button, the window will only fill up one display in its entirety. This makes it good for having different applications opened at once. In other words, when you maximize a window, it’s not like part of the window will show up on the computer monitor and the other part will show up on the TV. If you don’t have it maximized, you can actually resize it so that it does fill an entire display and then some, but the maximize button will only fill one screan. This is of course for extended desktop. For clone, it will show the exact same picture, and you can’t drag windows from one display to the other.
There will a new device coming out called the sling catcher designed specifically to connect a computer to a TV. Although it is possible now to hook the computer up to the TV and watch your slingbox on the TV using the technique I described above, the sling catcher makes it more convient becuase you will have a remote control.
