Is It Safe To Place And Lcd Or Plasma Tv Above The Fireplace?
I recently bought a Sony 42" LCD TV, and I was hoping to put it above my fireplace, but is this safe? Also, is it safe to place the TV in an area that is warm, like near the kitchen? Also, does this rule apply to Plasma TV's too? Thanks!

Heat is bad for all electronics.
However, you need to figure out just how hot the ambient air temperature will be in the areas you describe and you need to have a number, not just something qualitative like “fairly warm”.
My gut feeling is that anything warmer than what you or I can tolerate for a room temperature is not good for your electronics either. In my opinion, that is around 90F.

You can put it over the fireplace as long as you follow the guidelines on combustibles. Also, as a precaution, if you don’t have a mantel shelf install one between the fireplace and t.v. to deflect the heat. Also, there are fans available for most fireplaces. This will also help.

as a precaution i would keep it away from areas that could have a higher temperature than room temperature when it comes to any electronics unless of course it demands it.

Almost as bad as putting them IN the fireplace.
