check out your warranty, plasma TVs void the warranty if you do, because they are heat sensitive. because they use a gas.
LCD may also.  after all they are a liquid crystal.  The code where we live require the mantle to be at least 12&quot; above the fire box and that is the part flat against the wall (the architrave) that part which extends out the shelf will smoke and soot on the bottom. so will the TV.
Again  I wouldn&#039;t do it, I know they look great and it lets you arrange furniture where both the fireplace and the TV both are centered in the optimum viewing place.
If you could recess the TV to avoid the heat then you might be getting somewhere.
