  1. I think this one is the best for you, Samsung LE40B550A5 40 inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p Crystal LCD TV with Freeview.Great picture qualityhttp://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001U…
or more choice for your budgethttp://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/redirect.html…

  2. Hit up Richer Sounds. Their online site can you give you a good breakdown of what they have available. They have reasonable prices, and sometimes some wicked sales. They have actual retail outlets too (check online for the locations).
For that budget, some models I think would be great for you,
SAMSUNG LE40B530 – 40″ 1080p Freeview LCD for 500 pounds. I wouldn’t mind 100Hz at that size, but not the end of the world. Definitely a nice set. Same size, type, and price, there is also the SONY KDL40S5500. Another solid choice I think. Check them out in person and see which one your eye is drawn to more. Specs wise they are very comparable.
If you don’t need Freeview, I’d also recommend looking at the HITACHI UT37MX70 – 37″ 1080p 100Hz LCD. Its only 400 quid. Its a very thin profile TV as well (but then short on the number of inputs offered). So it sacrifices on Freeview and inputs, but to my understanding not on quality. And same TV, but slightly larger is the HITACHI UT42MX70 (42″ and 500 quid). So still in your budget.
“quite big” can mean different things to different people, so not sure how big exactly you were looking for. But I think 37″ or 40″ is about what you’ll be able to pull off with good quality in the budget.
Within your budget though, my favorite sets are,
Panasonic TXL32G10B (FreeSat, the S10 has Freeview)
    - I’m a personal fan of the look that Panasonic TVs have in their image quality. Just personal taste. But in your budget, you’re likely look at this 32″ set then.
    HITACHI UT42MX70
    - likely the biggest you can go in your budget. I would expect a good image quality. My only concern is the lack of Freeview and multiple inputs.
    SONY KDL40S5500
    - I think a nice trade off in size and features. I think Sony’s might not be flashy, but they’re reliable, you know what you’re getting from them because they’ve been around forever.

  3. I would suggest Toshiba Regza 42AV635DB 42-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD TV

  4. LG has some really good deals in that range but you may have to settle for 32 inch, but get the 120hz model a good LG is 32LH40 may be a good choice for you budget.

  5. I would go with Samsung..Good pictures, good reviews, good features.
