LCD would give you a better picture because the electronics allows each pixel to be a different color. DLP is digital light processing and the light is reflected on the tube from the back. You should also consider Plasma as it has the best color rendition. If you want to find out more you should visit http://www.HDTV-Simplified.com . Their book explains everything in an easy to understand language. I would recommend you get it and learn more before purchasing your HDTV. It also explains things such as how your room size determines the size of your TV. You don’t want to put a large TV in a small room. The brightness could be blinding.
Good Luck and Merry Christmas
