What’s So Difficult About Mounting Your Lcd Tv To The Wall Yourself?
The wall is brick. The TV's heavy. Besides that, why should I hire a professional? My TV's a Sony and of course, they recommend their own bracket and suggest you hire a professional. I can pick up a universal bracket anywhere and I have a drill. Why shouldn't I do it myself?

All of this sounds simple but how skilled are you at using an electric had drill? I’ve been a tradesman for many years & have witnessed other tradesmen doing a job similar to yours. Because they did hold the drill correctly & used the wrong speed, the 8mm hole they intended to drill became a 10mm hole. The result was new holes being drilled into the wall & the MESS being repaired.
Countless number of people think that using a hand drill is childs play. This is far from the truth. In fact, it takes a certain skill (not much) to use this equipment properly & thus avoid any problems.
If you are sure that you are competent enough to carry out this task, by all means, go ahead.
If not, pay somebody to do it. At least this way, if there is a problem, you can have redress of grievance.

In this genre of question, here in Yahoo, I know I’ve seen many answers related, and you could do a general question search. Beyond that I responded to one, long ago, offering a link to AOL, and their DIY guy, who showed a Video, and explanations about mounting.
Certainly it’s an OK DIY thing, as long as procedures are correctly followed. I have to believe too, that other such links such as DIY network, etc. offer valid suggestions.

Personally, I’d do it myself. Just get a masonry bit for your drill and use a sleeve anchor made for concrete/brick. Attach your bracket and give it a good pull to make sure it’s secure.

Just go ahead and do it yourself. It’s no big deal. And if it falls, you get to buy another brand new LCD TV. But hey, you will save a few bucks on the hanging job.
Oh yeah, your warranty won’t cover falling off the wall due to your failure to hire a professional.

Why not indeed. Probably make a better job of it than some hairy-arsed builder who doesn’t have to live with the prospect of an expensive telly hitting the deck.

You will need a masonry drill bit and some good anchors. If you install the universal bracket so that it will hold about 300 lbs. then you should be fine.
Just make sure it is tougher than you think. I weight about 250 and I did a pull-up on mine to test it. A TV only weights about 150 but make is extra strong just to be safe.
