I'm using a Samsung LCD TV in my living room too. HD Ready; 32" LCD TV. The contrast, color quality and etc are great!
Other Brands like Panasonic, LG are both great brands too. But Samsung better =)

Keep your options open to other brands. It all goes down to luck when you purchase electronics goods. Sometimes branded stuffs will break down just after it's warranty period was over, whereas non-branded ones prevailed. Non-branded stuffs still have its competitive edge in terms of quality.
And you have to prioritize your expectations such as resolution, functions, PC compatibility, power consumption, price and so on...

Go for only World Brand . Sony / Toshiba / Panasonic / Sharp / LG / Samsung / Philips. as those World wide Brand From Design, productions all by own factory, back up with R & D. there go for Quality ! you just paid a bit more. Never go for OEM brand, there ask other small factory to make, just " put " there own brand, even there may try to go for Quality, but beyond control , all design and production is by other, nothing to do with them. so the price is always low ! buy an World wide brand enjoy for next 5 year, is worth for it ! Just FYI.. Philips are good tv maker , for small size LCD tv , Philips and LG use the same LCD panel , because Philips - LG JV a LCD panel factory in Korea. Samsung and Sony also JV a LCD panel in Korea, for 32 Inc and below , Sony and Samsung use the same panel from Korea JV factory. there use very own make LCD panel for 42 inc and above size, that Sony made in Japan.Samsung make by own in Korea.Samsung make good tv. for small size , Philips / Samsung / Sony about same class , after sales all are very good. so go for out look and prices, which you like ? * There is very " nice " 20 inc new model from Sony and Sharp..come with few colour , not only in black. maybe just look around.
